The Old Stone House will host Spooky Stories Oct. 28.

BRADY TWP — Halloween Meets History at the Old Stone House's Spooky Stories event planned for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 28.

Featured will be storytelling by Mary Morgan Smith, producer of Pittsburgh's annual Three Rivers Storytelling Festival.

New this year will be a performance by the Miracle Elixir Side Show, a Victorian-themed entertainment troupe performing magic and interactive amusements.

Slippery Rock University theater students will perform a dramatic reading of works by Edgar Allan Poe, and Jennings Environmental Center will return to the Stone House with an exhibit exploring the myths and facts about bats.

Festivities include face painting, an apple cider press demonstration, candle dipping, and sugar cookie decorating. Admission price is $8 per person, with a cap of $30 for families of four or more. Children younger than 4 are admitted free.

The Old Stone House is at the intersection of routes 8, 173 and 528. The site is owned and managed by Slippery Rock University.

[naviga:h3]'Biloxi Blues' begins at BLT[/naviga:h3]

Butler Little Theatre's 2017-18 season opens with “Biloxi Blues,” the second chapter of Neil Simon's Eugene trilogy, centering on the journey of a young Army recruit, Eugene Morris Jerome, during World War II.

Run dates are Friday to Oct. 1 and Oct. 3 to 7.

The cast includes Cody Nagle, John Carlson, Josh Donovan, Adam Pawlowicz, Grant Clark, Montana Simpson, Don Shearer, Amy Cannard and Allison Torres.

The 33rd annual Mars Applefest will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 and feature food, crafts, games and entertainment in downtown Mars.

Concordia's Oktoberfest will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 as well. The day features a German menu, musical entertainment, a petting zoo/pony rides, games, entertainment and fireworks at 134 Marwood Road, Jefferson Township.

The Portersville Steam Show Fall Fling is planned for two days, Oct. 7 and 8. It features a vintage village, cider press, gas engines, oil field equipment, farm animals, train rides, steam engines, a flea market, crafts and food.

[naviga:h3]Harvest Moon festivities set[/naviga:h3]

PENN TWP — The Maridon Museum plans a Harvest Moon celebration on Oct. 21 at Butler Country Club.

Cash bar will begin at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. and dinner stations at 7 p.m.

Reservations for the black tie-optional event are $100 if made by Friday and $125 after Friday.
