BUTLER CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE

CHRIST COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST

Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road, has its annual picnic at noon Sunday at the Masonic Pavilion at Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road. Those with last names beginning with A to P should take dessert and those beginning with Q to Z should take a side dish.

Sunday is also Bring a Friend Day.

The First English Lutheran Church work team meets at 4 p.m. Monday.

Bible study classes begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The trustees meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN

Choir practices at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St., are at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday in the sanctuary. Any one interested in joining the choir should visit a rehearsal.

The People for Peace study group meets at 11 a.m. today in the assembly room.

FIRST BAPTIST

The Association of Independent Baptist Churches of Western Pennsylvania is sponsoring the 2017 men’s fall retreat at Slippery Rock Baptist Camp. The women’s missionary fellowship will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Baptist Youth Center.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERN

First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., has Bible study at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

The finance committee meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday for budget planning.

GRACE@CALVARY LUTHERAN

Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., has a new members’ class following the worship service Sunday. Lunch will be provided.

The church council meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the library.

Grace’s Closet, a free clothing bank, is open from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

GraceWay meets at the Center Township Elementary School on Mercer Road.

HILL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., has Kids Club for age 3 through grade 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 15. Register at 4:45 p.m.

Pledge cards for the “Lifting Up God’s People” capital campaign are due Sept. 28. Funds donated will defray costs of the handicap lift to the sanctuary.

MARS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The membership committee at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, meets at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in the board room.

The middle school youth group meets at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and the high school youth group meets at 7 p.m. Sunday.

GriefShare meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the library.

Getting Renewed on Wednesday (GROW), starts with dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Valencia Presbyterian Church.

OLD UNION PRESBYTERIAN

Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, collected 1,000 pairs of shoes during its summer shoe drive to support CHOSEN, one of its mission projects.

David Schell serves as student pastor this year and leads Sunday’s Scripture readings.

SAINT ANDREWS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The Backpack Initiative at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., collects food for Butler area children in need of food on weekends. Suggested donations include easy macaroni, cereal bars, single-serving fruit cups and sandwich crackers. Deliver contributions to the giant backpack in the narthex.

Church youths travel to Pittsburgh for the Presbytery’s youth scavenger hunt Oct. 1. To participate or to serve as a chaperone or driver, contact Stephanie Slezak by Wednesday.

ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN

Lay minister John Bulger leads the Sunday worship service at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Connoquenessing, 100 Main St., Connoquenessing, while the pastor is on vacation.

The Church Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

ST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg, has events tonight: sewing circle at 6:30, praise team at 6:30 and generations choir at 7:30.

ST. MARK'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN

St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will celebrate Holy Communion at all weekend services.

SUMMIT PRESBYTERIAN

During the Sunday worship service at Summit Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Bibles will be presented to third-graders. After the service, there are small group Bible studies for all ages.

The summer reading program concludes Sunday. Take reading logs to the church library.

The 60+ luncheon is at noon Sunday in the fellowship hall.

TRINITY LUTHERAN

Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Center Township, has Out to Lunch after the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The Church Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday.

Holden evening prayer is at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Quilting is at 9 a.m. Sept. 21, and the health and wellness group meets at 6:30 p.m. that day.

VALENCIA PRESBYTERIAN

Valencia Presbyterian Church, 80 Sterrett St., Valencia, celebrates Back to Church at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The men’s Bible study small group kicks off with breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday at Jimmy’s Strip District Grill, 200 Mars Valencia Road, Mars.

The midweek ministry, Getting Renewed on Wednesday (GROW), starts with a family-style dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday followed by small groups and activities for all ages from 7 to 8 p.m. Mars United Presbyterian and Old Union Presbyterian churches are participating in the ministry.

ZION UNITED METHODIST

Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Sarver, has 10 a.m. Sunday worship followed by a variety show with most of the congregation participating. The annual picnic starts at noon. Chicken, hot dogs, place settings and beverages are provided. Take a dish to share.
