P-R dominates SV

Rams QB throws for 282 yards in 1st half

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley football team experienced the dominance of Phil Jurkovec Friday.

The Raiders' defense couldn't stop the Pine-Richland quarterback and Notre Dame University recruit, who played a big part in Seneca Valley's 42-7 loss in a non-conference game at Seneca Valley High School.

“I'm not sure I've seen a high school quarterback throw the ball like that in my lifetime,” said Seneca Valley coach Ron Butschle.

Jurkovec was 17-of-22 passing for 282 yards and three touchdown passes — in the first half.

The Rams (3-0) started out strong with a 10-play, 61-yard drive capped by Anthony Cerminara's 5-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter.

The Raiders were forced to punt after three plays on their first possession. The punt was blocked by Pine-Richland's Thomas Burns, and the Rams took over at the Seneca Valley 15-yard line.

Eight plays later, on 4th down and inches, Jurkovec dove into the end zone for the score. He followed that up with another touchdown run, this one from 10 yards out, on Pine-Richland's next possession. By the end of the first quarter, Seneca Valley trailed 21-0.

The Raiders (0-2) failed to get into Rams territory until the second quarter, when a long kick return and a personal foul against Pine-Richland brought Seneca Valley to the opposing 34.

However, the Raiders were stalled at the 26, and the Rams took over on downs. That was the closest Seneca Valley came to scoring in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Rams piled on the points, with touchdown passes of 25, 34 and 52 yards to lead 42-0 at halftime.

Pine-Richland managed 15 first downs in the first half. Meanwhile, Seneca Valley managed 29 yards of total offense in the half.

Pine-Richland coach Eric Kasperowicz said his team knew Seneca Valley was scrappy and prepared accordingly.

“We had to come out fast and play hard early and we did that,” he said.

Seneca Valley put numbers on the board late in the third quarter when a long pass from Gabe Lawson to Jake Bunofsky set up Noah Mancuso' 8-yard touchdown run a play later.
