Tornado tennis team gets sweep

Butler's Teddi Isherwood, Reagan Sommariva and Savana Turner each won their match in singles play in the Golden Tornado's 5-0 girls tennis victory over Moon on Thursday.

The win improves Butler to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in section play.

Zach Gehm managed a 1-under-par 34 as Seneca Valley defeated rival North Allegheny 188-193 at Cranberry Highlands.

Three other golfers shot sub-40 scores for the Raiders (7-1, 6-1) — Adam Bushee (36), Zach Brown (38) and Mark McNulty (39).

Moniteau's Weston Kimmey continued his superb season by shooting a 33 in a Mega-Match at Lake Arthur Golf Club.

The effort lifted the Warriors to a team victory with 227 strokes, 26 better than second-place Clarion.

Nate Tack added a 44 for Moniteau.

Karns City placed third with 256, led by Hunter Gifford's 45.

Burrell 214, Freeport 219 — Despite a 38 from Morgan Penn, the Yellowjackets (6-2, 5-1) lost in section play for the first time this season.

Slippery Rock's Chad Green shot an 88 as the Rockets finished 15th out of 23 teams at the North Hills Invitational in Corry. The Rockets had 382 strokes. McDowell won the event with 321.

Girls Golf

Hannah Folk and Maggie Feczko both carded a 42 to lead Butler to a 179-188 victory over Seneca Valley at Hiland Golf Course.

SV's Kennedy Johnston earned medalist honors with a 38.

Girls Volleyball

Josey Terwilliger dropped 12 kills and tallied 19 digs to lead A-C Valley to a 3-0 win at Karns City.

Olivia Boocks contributed 16 digs, eight kills and four aces, Sydney Rankin 12 assists and Kylee Eaton eight digs, four kills and three blocks.

The Falcons won the match by scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-19.

A-C Valley also won the junior varsity match, 2-1.

Knoch 3, Central Valley 1 — Sarah Armahizer had 18 kills for the Knights (2-0).

Carly Bozzo added 32 digs and Kennedy Christy had 12 kills in an 18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-23 triumph.

Freeport 3, Burrell 0 — Ally DeJidas had 11 kills and five aces and Hannah Mason added 10 kills as the Yellowjackets rolled, 25-10, 25-9, 25-13.

Courtney Grubbs pitched in 19 assists for Freeport (2-0).

Union 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Marli Hawk had 16 digs and Hannah Atzeni 32 assists in the Damsels' 25-12, 25-15, 25-14 sweep.

Frankee Remmick added 13 kills for Union.

Boys Soccer

Nate Rondinelli scored twice in the second half to spark Karns City to a 2-0 victory over Clarion-Limestone.

Kaden Scherer tallied an assist for the Gremlins while Jake Weckerly had four saves in the shutout.

Freeport 2, Shady Side Academy 0 — Hunter Hardin and Bryce Hanby scored for the Yellowjackets (3-0, 2-0), both assisting on the other's goal.

The contest was suspended due to inclement weather with 16:44 left in the second half, but will count as an official game.
