[naviga:h3]SRU’s Anderson still candidate for award[/naviga:h3]

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Slippery Rock University student-athlete Sabrina Anderson has advanced to the Top 30 for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The Top 30 honorees — 10 from each of the NCAA’s three divisions — represent 12 sports and a wide range of academic majors.

Anderson graduated in just three years with as degree in exercise science, sporting a 3.91 grade point average. She is one of five women to win the Pete Nevins Scholar Athlete of the Year in consecutive years.

She is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and is the PSAC record holder in rthe pentathlon indoor. Despite competing on torn ankle ligaments, Anderson won her third straight PSAC pentathlon indoor title this year and was All-Region in indoor and outdoor.

[naviga:h3]SRU’s Garry, Parsons athletes of week[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University quarterback Tanner Garry and runner Jeremy Parsons are among the PSAC’s athletes of the week.

Garry was named PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week in football after passing for 390 yards and five touchdowns in SRU’s 42-21 football win at Kentucky State. It was Garry’s first football start since high school.

Parsons was named Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after winning the Marty Uher Invitational at California (Pa.) University by more than a minute and 20 seconds.

[naviga:h3]SV grad Neill gets soccer honor[/naviga:h3]

GREENSBURG — Seneca Valley graduate and Seton Hill sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Neill has been named PSAC Women’s Soccer Co-Athlete of the Week.

Neill posted back-to-back shutouts as the Griffins started the season 2-0, including a 1-0 upset of No. 9 West Chester.
