[naviga:h3]McConnells Mill has heritage fest[/naviga:h3]

PORTERSVILLE — The McConnells Mill Heritage Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Kildoo picnic area and at the gristmill.

The festival, sponsored by the Portersville-Prospect Rotary, will celebrate the time period of the historical gristmill — from 1852 to 1928.

Local artists and crafters will demonstrate their skills and provide regional art for sale. Bluegrass and Celtic music and free tours of the mill will be offered.

A Civil War encampment with live cannon fire and family activities will be held both days.

A Sunday morning “old time” church service will be at 10:30 a.m.

Admission and parking will be free.

[naviga:h3]Class reunion deadline nearing[/naviga:h3]

Sept. 29 is the deadline for reservations to attend the Moniteau High School Class of 1977’s 40th reunion.

The Oct. 7 reunion will begin with a 5 p.m. social hour followed by a 6 p.m. dinner at the Belmont II, 1803 N. Main St. Ext.

[naviga:h3]Township sets recycling event[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — The township will have a recycling day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 for township residents only.

Registration and a driver’s license is required.

The collection site at 129 Ash Stop Road, Evans City, will take household chemicals and paints, electronics, freon-containing devices, florescent lights and batteries for a nominal fee.

ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., will begin offering seasonal children’s programs the week of Sept. 11.

Wee Ones Storytime (infants and toddlers under age 2) — Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Toddler Storytime (age 2 and 3) — Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Preschool Storytime (ages 3, 4 and 5) — Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Amazing Mondays (kindergarten through sixth grade) — First and third Mondays at 5 p.m., starting Sept. 18 with fusion bead pixel art.

Pages and Paws (all ages) — First and third Thursdays at 5 p.m. starting Sept. 21.

All programs are free, and registration is not required. Call the library at 724-452-9330 for any questions.
