Butler residents will be able to play bingo and hold wedding receptions at the new social hall at the Sons and Daughters of Italy at 338 S. Main St.

Ed Codi of Sons and Daughters of Italy, a club for people of Italian heritage, said the renovation of a garage into a social hall is set to be completed by Sept. 15.

Codi said the organization has been holding bingo games at Butler Cubs Boxing on McKean Street, and wanted a place of its own to host bingo.

“It's turned out to be better than I even anticipated,” Codi said.

The hall is located at the rear of the building. The renovation cost $365,000 and includes a new floor, new walls, two bathrooms, two storage rooms, a kitchen, a bar and a new entrance.

Codi hopes to attract wedding receptions to the hall, as well. He said the hall has the capacity to hold 190 people.

“(We hope to have a virtual reality tour showing off the hall to attract people to come and see how nice a hall it is to have wedding receptions there,” he said.

The renovation will have taken about six months to complete, if finished on schedule. The front of the club has remained open throughout renovation.

The Sons and Daughters of Italy, formerly the Sons of Italy, has been in Butler since 1906. It is part of the Pennsylvania chapter of Sons and Daughters of Italy.

The location on South Main Street is the club's fourth location.
