[naviga:h3]Valencia’s Bartley wins BCC title[/naviga:h3]
PENN TWP — Valencia resident and Indiana (Pa.) University senior Josh Bartley, 21, won the 2017 Club Championship at Butler Country Club over the weekend.
Bartley won by three strokes, shooting a 70, 75 and 69 in the three-day event.
[naviga:h3]BlueSox players named all-stars[/naviga:h3]
ELKVILLE, Ill. — Five Butler BlueSox players have been named East Division All-Stars for the 2017 Prospect L:eague season.
Receiving those honors were Seneca Valley graduate and pitcher Connor Coward (Virginia Tech), third baseman James Meeker (Delaware), shortstop Pavin Parks (Kent State), outfielder Tanner Murphy (North Florida) and catcher Brady Gulakowski (North Carolina State).
The BlueSox were shutout of the league’s major awards. Lafayette’s Brad Depperman was Pitcher of the Year, Terre Haute’s Eddie Miller Fireman of the Year for relief pitching, Lafayette’s Dougie Parks Player of the Year and Lafayette’s Brent McNeil Manager of the Year.
[naviga:h3]GCC women’s tennis picked to win PAC[/naviga:h3]
GREENVILLE — For the third time in four years, Grove City College’s women’s tennis team has been picked to win the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in the coaches preseason poll.
Jeff Buxton is in his sixth year as GCC coach. The Wolverines collected six of nine first-place votes. Thomas More is picked second, Westminster third.
[naviga:h3]GCC hires Smith as head track coach[/naviga:h3]
GROVE CITY — Grove City College has hired Jessica Cooper Smith as its new head men’s and women’s track and field coach.
Smith replaces Todd Gibson, who continues as GCC’s athletic director. Smith has been an assistant track coach at Westminster the past three years and assisted at Washington & Jefferson for four years prior to that.
