WASHINGTON, Pa. — Butler boxers Ryan Covert and Billy Wolfe Jr. were defeated in their respective bouts on a pro-amateur boxing card Saturday night at The Meadows casino.
Covert (1-2) took on Darrius Heward (1-3) in a scheduled four-round pro heavyweight bout and was stopped by TKO one minute into the first round.
Butler Cubs boxer Wolfe Jr. (40-11) lost a three-round decision to Teddy Mrkonja in a 132-pound amateur bout. Mrkonja is a longtime amateur boxer who has competed at Golden Gloves Nationals.
Former Cubs boxer Bobby Osterreider (1[0) was scheduled to have his second pro fight, but a suitable opponent could not be found.
[naviga:h3]Mars’ Edinger wins St. Barnabas 5K[/naviga:h3]
GIBSONIA — Nick Edinger, 26, of Mars was the top male finisher Saturday in the 26th annual St,. Barnabas Free Care 5K.
Edinger completed the course in 15 minutes, 14 seconds, just 38 seconds off the course record. Laura Harnish, 30, was the top female finisher in 17:43.
Edinger and Harnish received a $250 courtesy prize from First National Bank of Gibsonia.
The 5K benefits the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which provides more than $7 million annually to patients who cannot afford their care.
