BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College has hired a former assistant dean from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland as its new vice president for academic affairs, following a national search.

Dr. Belinda Richardson joined BC3 on July 5 as the school's chief academic officer.

Her responsibilities include supervising BC3's academic programs and faculty; educational technology and distance education; assessment, research and planning; workforce development; and selected grants. She will also oversee BC3's Heaton Family Learning Commons.

Richardson comes from Cuyahoga Community College, where she directed more than 90 employees in a basic skills and literacy program that prepared adults for general education development. She had been with the school for 15 years.

Nick Neupauer, BC3 president, called Richardson an exciting addition to the school's administrative team.

“She brings a great deal of experience and expertise,” Neupauer said.

Richardson succeeds Dr. Bruce Russell, who retired in June after serving as interim vice president for academic affairs since July of 2015.

Richardson earned a doctoral degree in community college leadership from the National American University Roueche Graduate Center; a master's degree in family and consumer sciences from the University of Akron; and a bachelor's degree in communication from Ohio University.

She began teaching general education development at community colleges in 1996, and in 2010 became the director of adult basic literacy education at Cuyahoga in 2010.
