Cranberry closes with pair of wins

Cranberry took two out of three games from Meridian over the weekend to conclude the Butler County legion baseball regular season.

Meridian won the first game at Highfield, scoring seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out an 8-6 victory. Jace Stutz singled and Joel Stutz doubled to highlight the frame.

Cranberry had built a 6-1 lead as Max Ginsburg allowed only an unearned run in the first five innings.

Cranberry evened the series with a 15-1 triumph, pounding out 13 hits in five innings. Ryan Stelitano tossed a two-hitter in going the distance.

Alex Scalone had three hits and three RBI while Jesse Cleary singled, doubled and scored twice. Jake Clinefelter had two singles and scored twice. Jay Tanda and Matt Lewis had two hits each.

Kevin Everly and Steven Spotts combined mound efforts to nip Meridian, 3-2, in the regular season finale. Everly struck out eight and pitched into the sixth inning. Spotts got the save.

Everly tripled and Clinefelter doubled in the game. Haywood pitched six innings and struck out three for Meridian.
