Thursday — Brandon A. Williams, 21, of Oakland Township was charged with trying to illegally buy a gun at a township store last year.

Police said Williams allegedly provided false information on a federal form that was required Nov. 24 when he attempted to buy the gun at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Greenwood Plaza.

When his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, an automated system by which gun dealers can determine if someone can legally buy a gun in the state, he was denied the purchase.

Williams is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

Thursday — Colleen M. Baptiste, 31, of Oakland Township was charged with drugged driving stemming from a one-vehicle rollover wreck last month on Wise Road.

Police said Baptiste suffered minor injuries shortly before 3 a.m. June 14 when she lost control of her pickup truck. She told police the crash happened when she swerved to avoid deer on the road.

An ambulance crew suspected the defendant was under the influence while treating her, according to court documents. Police searched the overturned pickup and noticed what appeared to be a drug pipe.

Baptiste denied the pipe was hers. She also denied she had been drinking.

She was subsequently evaluated by a drug recognition expert. During the evaluations, documents said, she admitted using the prescription painkiller tramadol and a “small line of cocaine.”

Police took her to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed she had cocaine and marijuana in her system.

Baptiste is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and reckless driving.
