MARION TWP — Firefighters had to extricate a woman after her car wrecked into a tree along Boyers Road Saturday.

“We had to cut her out,” said Chief Joe Fitzgerald of the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company.

He said his crew used the jaws and cutters to cut the car apart.

“She was heavily entrapped,” Fitzgerald said.

He said the young woman was conscious and in pain. He was told she may have sustained pelvis and back injuries.

Superior Ambulance took the woman to a landing zone cleared by the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department. She was then flown to an unspecified hospital.

Fitzgerald said the Chevrolet Trailblazer crossed into the wrong lane onto that side’s berm before going back across the road and turning sideways.

He said the SUV then traveled roughly 70 feet into a wooded area near the Boyers Sportsmen dam before hitting the tree on the driver’s side.

“It hit the driver’s side extremely hard,” Fitzgerald said.

The accident was reported in a 4:07 p.m. 911 call.

A state police report on the accident was unavailable.
