Pasture walk set at Dibbern farm
The Natural Resources Conservation Service will host an evening pasture walk at Dawson Dibbern’s farm, 215 Euclid Road, on July 11 from 6 p.m. until dusk.
This is Dawson’s second year under adaptive, tall grass grazing management and the walk will focus on the benefits seen from last year to now.
Following this management strategy of extended pasture rest, Dawson was able to graze 300 days last year and this year has increased his animal numbers to encourage more grass growth.
Grass production, interseeding cover crops into pastures, benefits of forage testing, fence and water movement will all be highlighted and NRCS will speak on the soil health aspects of tall grass grazing and its ability to drought-proof the farm.
To register for this free event, contact the NCRS office at 724-482-4800, Ext. 3, or send an email to andy.gaver@pa.usda.gov.
Andy Gaver is a conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Butler County.
