Work won't hinder parade
ZELIENOPLE — Construction will not impede Zelienople's July 4th parade.
Work on the Main Street sidewalks will continue next week while the borough prepares for it's celebration.
The construction is part of Zelienople's Streetscape project to repair and reconstruct much of Main Street in the hopes of revitalizing the borough's economy and improving its overall aesthetic.
“It's going well,” said Don Pepe, borough manager. “We're hoping to get a Main Street that's a lot nicer ... Along with helping the businesses out.”
Construction has been ongoing for the last two weeks, and in that time crews have been working their way up the street demolishing sidewalks and pouring new concrete.
There will not be construction on the Fourth of July, and the borough will spend much of Monday cleaning and preparing for the parade.
There will be no further demolition until Wednesday at the earliest.
“Everything is going to be buttoned up before that,” Pepe said. “We always sweep and get people to do a little.”
The borough is asking business owners and residents to “spruce up” the front of their properties in preparation for the festivities.
A street sweeper will clear away debris that remains or is swept into the street.
The Streetscape project will continue for at least the rest of the year.
