Construction to begin in July

KARNS CITY — Butler Armco Employees Credit Union expects to open a new branch office in Karns City this fall, according to a credit union news release.

An official ground breaking ceremony was held recently at the site of the new branch at 106 Petrolia St. in the borough.

Construction is expected to begin in July. The new office will be a 1,600-square-foot modular building.

The new facility will feature full-service operation, including loan and cash services; drive-through teller and ATM services; and night deposit box. Additional business services are to be added later this year. This newest branch will replace the current branch office next to the Karns City Post Office.

Butler Armco Employees Credit Union (BAECU) is a not-for-profit full service financial institution owned completely by its members. It was founded in 1935.

The credit union's original office was in the former Armco Butler Works plant. The first building was constructed on Hansen Avenue in 1989, and was expanded in 2002.

BAECU merged with Penn Drake Credit Union in Karns City in 2014.

The credit union has about 60 employees covering the branches in Butler, Butler County Community College, Karns City and Mars.

BAECU has about 30,000 members and roughly $330 million in assets. It has more than 130 businesses and membership organizations who in partnership provide membership for their employees.
