CRANBERRY TWP — The traffic signals along Rochester and Freedom roads will be improved thanks to a grant from the state.

Cranberry Township was awarded a $52,750 grant on Friday to improve traffic signal timing along the two corridors. It is a 50-50 matching grant.

The grant will help fund the purchase of software to change clock-driven signal cycles into demand-responsive adaptive signals. Eight more signals will be connected to other adaptive signals in the township's traffic management system.

The township has been working for several years to change all of the signals along its busiest roads to adaptive timing. There will be a total of 29 signals funded for adaptive technology on Route 228, Route 19 and Freedom Road from this grant and a PennDOT Green Light-GO grant awarded last month.

Funds for the grant were generated by the state's Automated Red Light Enforcement program.
