Body found believed to be Butler woman
The remains believed to be a missing Butler woman who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend last week were discovered Monday evening in Neshannock Township, authorities said.
An autopsy was expected to be conduced today to confirm the remains are that of 26-year-od Melissa Barto.
“The body was burned rather badly,” said Trooper James Long this morning. “It was a pretty horrific scene.”
He declined to elaborate on the findings, citing deference to Barto's family.
The Lawrence County Coroner's Office was notified about the findings at Old Pulaski Road in Neshannock Township, north of New Castle.
Police on Sunday arrested Ishemer Ramsey, 21, of Lyndora, charging him with homicide. He is accused of shooting Barto in the head three times during an argument inside his car Thursday night.
Along with physical evidence, investigators spoke to at least three people who claim Ramsey admitted killing Barto, said police Lt. Eric Hermick.
One of those identified witnesses, 23-year-old James Howard-George of Butler, provided police with detailed information about his involvement with Ramsey following the alleged homicide.
Police this morning arrested Howard-George, who was booked into the Butler County Prison on charges of conspiracy to commit homicide, conspiracy, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
Ramsey is being held in the county prison without bail.
