A Pittsburgh man, charged with possessing hundreds of bags of suspected heroin during a traffic stop in 2015 was sentenced to time served in Butler County Court on Thursday.

Kelan E. Johnson, 32, was sentenced to time served to 11½ months in Butler County Prison, six months probation, 25 hours of community service and to pay court costs and $200 in fines, by county Judge Timothy McCune. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana on Jan. 18.

McCune also allowed probation to be transferred to Allegheny County due to Johnson's living situation.

Johnson's attorney, Milton Raiford, said since the incident, his client has gotten a job at a cleaning company and is turning his life around.

“Kelan has finally put his bat on the ball of success,” he said.

Johnson was initially charged alongside Wallace Goldston III, with felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana after the incident on Oct. 15, 2015.

Butler police pulled over a vehicle on West Cunningham Street following a traffic violation, and Goldston was found driving on a suspended license.

Because Johnson also did not have a valid driver's license, police towed the vehicle and did an inventory of the vehicle's contents to safeguard any valuables.

A check of the trunk turned up several bags and boxes and inside a leather bag, two clear plastic bags containing 273 bags of suspected heroin as well as several grams of suspected marijuana, were found, police said.

Both men were arraigned and held in Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail. Johnson's bail was decreased to $10,000, and he posted a bond on Dec. 17, 2015.

Goldston previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five to 10 months in county jail.
