Jeep history exhibit showcases 1960s

The historical display of military Jeeps at a past Bantam Heritage Jeep Festival. More than 20 Jeeps from the 1960s will be featured this year.

Jeep owners who remember Jeeps from the 1960s won’t want to miss the Jeep history exhibit this year.

That’s because the exhibit will feature the Jeep Through the Decades display with more than 20 Jeeps from the 1960s.

The exhibit will feature unique Jeeps from many different Jeep owners as well as several Jeeps from the impressive collection of Jeep history exhibit sponsor, OMIX-ADA. Some Jeeps traveling to the festival with OMIX-ADA include a 1960 DJ-3A Surrey, a 1966 Wagoneer and a 1967 CJ-6.

“We’re excited to continue this exhibit in partnership with OMIX-ADA again this year,” said Bill Ringeisen, who manages the Jeep history exhibit.

“Their collection combined with individually owned Jeeps from passionate festivalgoers really make the exhibit come together. Festival attendees really enjoy seeing all of the Jeeps and talking with the owners.”

This year, Butler’s own Bantam Jeep historian Lee Bortmas will give daily talks about the Bantam Jeep. New this year, the festival is also offering an Insider’s Tour each day at 1:30 p.m. During this time, Jeep owners will share interesting facts about their Jeeps and share details about their Jeep’s restoration.

Some of the Jeeps on display this year include a 1965 M-715, which was used in Vietnam, a 1967 Jeepster Commando pickup which was found at Blevins Fruit Farm in Stewartstown, Pa., and a 1968 M-725 ambulance which was originally assigned to the 339th general hospital, a 250-bed mobile hospital in Pittsburgh. Other models in the 2017 Jeeps through the Decades display include:

1965 Willys

1963 CJ-3B Universal

1965 M543A2 wrecker

1962 M-170 ambulance

1961 FC-170 DRW fire truck

The festival is also expanding the Faces of Jeep grille exhibit which was unveiled last year. Grilles from the 1960s will add to the display that demonstrates how the famous Jeep grille has evolved through the years.

The history exhibit opens at 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
