[naviga:h3]Amazon shares reach milestone[/naviga:h3]

SEATTLE — Amazon shares hit $1,000 in early Tuesday trading, reaching a numeric milestone reflecting Wall Street’s strong embrace of the e-commerce giant, something that not long ago, would have been hard to fathom.

The ascension to four figures caps a somewhat jittery but ultimately triumphant two-decade run-up that started when the company went public 20 years ago.

When accounting for past splits, it marks a staggering 66,567 percent rise in the value of an Amazon share since the 1997 initial public offering.

Amazon’s stock slipped quickly from the milestone, and though it bounced back near $1,000 at midday, the stock closed the session at $996.70.

[naviga:h3]Plant investigator arrested, group says[/naviga:h3]

SHANGHAI — An advocacy group says a man investigating allegations of worker abuse at a Chinese company that makes Ivanka Trump-brand shoes has been arrested and two others are missing. China Labor Watch’s founder says it’s the first time colleagues have ever faced such consequences.

China Labor Watch, a New York-based nonprofit, was planning to publish a report next month alleging low pay, excessive overtime and the possible misuse of student interns. It is unclear whether the undercover investigative methods used by the advocacy group are legal in China.
