Butler's Leech snares 3 medals

SHIPPENSBURG — It was quite the parting shot.

Butler senior Alexis Leech ended her athletic career with Butler High School Saturday by bringing home three medals from the PIAA Track and Field Championships.

“She’s headed to Pitt now ... and what a send-off,” Butler girls track coach John Williams said.

Leech placed fifth in the Class AAA 400 meters with a time of 56.68 seconds. She anchored the 4x400 meter relay team that placed fourth with a time of 3:51.80.

She also ran a leg of the Golden Tornado’s 4x800 relay unit, which placed sixth in 9:16.76. Both relays broke school records.

“That 400-meter race was loaded, some of the fastest runners in the eastern part of the country,” Williams said. “Alexis showed she’s one of them.

“She saw (Butler graduate) Emily Horstman come home with two state medals last year. Alexis was determined to come home with three.”
