Newman becomes third person charged in 2015 fatal overdose case
CHICORA —A third person has been charged in the 2015 fatal overdose of a Donegal Township man.
Justin O. Newman, 28, of Brady Township is accused of buying fentanyl-laced heroin that led to the death of 33-year-old Joshua Lee Stitt.
A preliminary hearing for Newman on charges including drug delivery resulting in death is set for May 30 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
That top count is the equivalent of third-degree murder under state law, and carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office on Friday filed their latest case in Stitt's death.
Along with the most serious charge, Stoughton arraigned the defendant on two other felonies — delivery and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Additionally, he is charged with misdemeanor drug possession.
Newman is being held in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.
