Next installment of series at the Maridon focuses on 'Baubles ... Bling'
The Maridon Museum presents the next installment in “The Collectors” series, “Baubles, Bangles and Bling” with Zelda Wilbert, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Wilbert said her presentation is a tribute to her mother, who worked as a restaurant manager during the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s and always wore a handkerchief nicely folded with a broach.
Wilbert herself started saving the jewelry she received in about second grade.
“I sold a bracelet once when I thought I needed the money, and then I regretted it, so when the Internet came along, I started looking for that type of jewelry,” said the Herman resident.
The bracelet was from the Miriam Haskell company, which made costume jewelry that looked like fine jewelry, said Wilbert.
“Many movie stars and wealthy people wore Miriam Haskell jewelry ... it was all handcrafted; the workmanship is unbelievable,” Wilbert said.
She said her program will include about 75 of her about 150 jewelry pieces. She also will discuss amber and how to identify it, and she will show some jade and garnets, pieces she’s collected on her travels.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Call 724-282-0123.
The final installment in the series will be “Curiosities and Conundrums of Make-Do Repairs” with Ellen King on June 15.
The exhibit and art sale called “A Cosmic Contemporary Collaboration” continues through June 3 at the museum.
The Maridon, 322 N. McKean St., is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
