SPACE-AGE TECH — The most technologically advanced unit at Butler County Memorial Hospital in May 1972 was the Intensive Care and Cardiac Unit. From their monitoring positions, Cathy Wiegand, seated, and Joan Russo observe critically ill patients in the unit. The telemetry system, a product of the space age, recorded patients’ heart beat and vital signs by means of radio impulses and television. In 2017, health care professionals will mark National Hospital Week Sunday through May 13 and National Nurses Week Saturday through May 12.
