[naviga:h2]Traffic deaths fall to lowest on record[/naviga:h2]
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania highway officials say traffic deaths in the state dropped slightly last year to reach their lowest level since records began to be kept in 1928.
The Transportation Department announced Monday that there were 1,188 traffic deaths in the state last year, down 12 from 2015.
Fatalities dropped from crashes where vehicles ran off the road or hit objects, as well as for incidents involving drunken drivers.
But pedestrian deaths from crashes jumped from 153 in 2015 to 172 in 2016.
[naviga:h2]Officials: Employee shot co-worker in leg[/naviga:h2]
MCKEES ROCKS — Allegheny County officials say an employee of a Pepsi plant in Stowe Township near Pittsburgh shot another worker in the leg at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. The victim is expected to survive.
Officials said the employee who was shot was taken to a local hospital with an injury that wasn’t considered life-threatening.
The worker accused of having fired the shot is in the custody of township police, and county homicide detectives have been asked to assist.
