Lane Kummer

Lane Kummer, 16, of Evans City was selected as Pennsylvania Jersey Queen during the Pennsylvania Jersey Cattle Association annual meeting.

She is an eight-year member of Butler County 4-H. She is active in the Dairy Club and vice-president of the Youth Council.

She also serves as a teen counselor for the 4-H In-Betweeners Retreat and has participated in many state 4-H leadership events.

As Pennsylvania Jersey Queen, she will represent the state’s Jersey farmers at state and national events.

Kummer will compete for the title of National Jersey Queen at the country’s premier Jersey show, the North American International Livestock Exposition, in November.

A presentation, interview and impromptu question event were required for the state competition.

Kummer is the daughter of Scott Kummer and Kate Kummer.

She owns six dairy cattle, including two Jerseys, and has exhibited at the Butler Farm Show and other regional, state and national dairy shows.

She also shows 4-H market hogs and is a member of the executive committee for the Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association. She grows and sells pumpkins with her brother.

Kummer is a sophomore at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, where she is a member of the track team, sings in the chorus and has played volleyball.

The more than 330 members of Butler County 4-H are part of the nation’s largest non-formal youth development organization. The members “learn by doing” with animal projects, sewing, baking, shooting sports, robotics and other projects.
