Michalski's sacrifice fly boosts Mars, 3-2

Anthony Michalski’s sacrifice fly scored Isaiah Johnson in the bottom of the fifth inning with what proved to be the winning run in Mars’ 3-2 baseball victory over Kiski Area Tuesday afternoon at Kelly Automotive Park.

Will Bednar worked three scoreless innings of relief for the victory, striking out three. Doogie Cannon started on the mound for Mars (4-2, 3-0) and pitched four innings.

Boys Volleyball

Cody Schnur dropped 12 kills and Tyler Rankin had 32 assists to lead Butler to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Fox Chapel.

Dan Kline tallied 14 digs and Andrew Chwalik three blocks for the Golden Tornado, who prevailed 25-14, 25-17, 26-24.

In a match against North Allegheny last Thursday, Butler (5-2, 3-2) dropped the third and final game by a score of 25-20. The score was listed incorrectly in Friday’s Butler Eagle.

Boys Lacrosse

Evan Schaffhauser scored six goals as Freeport downed Greensburg Central Catholic, 14-5.

Sean Fennel and Braith Kiser each scored a pair of goals for the Yellowjackets (4-4).

Softball

Amanda Fischer struck out seven, walked one and allowed no runs on five hits as Knoch crushed host Indiana, 8-0.

Monica Gourley went 4-for-4 and Celia Knappenberger doubled and homered for the Knights (8-1, 3-1).
