Butler business district tour slated
Entrepreneurs and prospective business owners who are interested in downtown Butler will have a chance to get better acquainted with the city’s business district later this month.
On April 29, the group Butler Downtown — a collective of business owners focused on revitalizing Main Street — will host an entrepreneur, new business and developer tour from 5 to 8 p.m. At 4 p.m., a pre-tour meeting will share information about the locations to be viewed.
The tour will allow participants to explore business opportunities and see spaces and buildings available for rent or purchase, as well as speak with downtown business owners and Realtors managing properties for sale.
Thomas Graham, owner of Frames & Pixels and president of Butler Downtown’s board, said the group adopted the idea from the publicity events held by many companies after a construction project is completed.
“We kind of took that concept and applied it; let’s open up all the buildings we have available for rent or sale and invite in businesses, entrepreneurs and developers,” Graham said.
The event will tap into data collected during the group’s mapping project, which started last year and involved a survey of business and commercial buildings in Butler’s downtown area. Graham said the group worked for several months to compile data on current businesses as well as vacant and for-sale properties.
The tour, which is self-guided, will likely include more than two dozen commercial properties.
The tour comes as a 76-room Marriot Springhill Suites hotel on East Cunningham Street is expected to open sometime this year — something Graham hopes will spur service businesses like restaurants, salons and spas.
Registration for the tour is required; register at www.butlerdowntown.org before April 18.
