Corbett “Corb” M. Stewart

Corbett “Corb” M. Stewart, 75, of Meridian died Monday.

Born Sept. 2, 1941, in Blairsville, Indiana County, he was the son of Robert C. and Julia M. Stewart.

Corb was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School, where he participated in cross country and track. He also studied at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. An electrician by trade, Corb was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 53 years. He spent most of his career working as a subcontractor at AK Steel and its predecessor, Armco.

Most recently, Corb worked as a consultant with Civil and Environmental Consultants, after having previously worked for, among other contractors, Right Electric and Fuellgraf Electric.

Corb spent his life invested in service to his family, to others and to organizations for which he cared deeply. He was a member of the William H. Miller Lodge 769, where he was the chaplain; the Butler Caravan 14, where he was a member of the board of directors; the Syria Shrine; the Syria Motor Corps, where he drove a yellow roadster; the Scottish Rite Consistory, where he was a 32nd degree Mason; the Shrine Hillbillies; the Tall Cedars; the Legion of Honor from DeMolay International; the DeMolay Advisory Council; the Butler Chapter 273 R&SMM; the Butler Council 61; the Lorraine Commandery 87, where he was captain general; the Butler Shrine Lunch Club; the Boy Scouts of America — Moraine Trails Council; and the Meridian Vets Club. He attended the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, where he served in a variety of roles during his many decades of membership.

As a young man, he worked as a counselor at Camp Bucoco. Corb was an Eagle Scout and was formerly active in both the Butler Little Theatre and the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department. He served as a youth baseball coach in both Meridian and with the Butler Area Baseball Association.

Corb is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kathy J. Nicklas Stewart, who he married Aug. 21, 1976; and their son, Ryan P. (Sara) Stewart of Wexford.

Also surviving are his daughter, Betsy A. (Chris) Duncan of Zelienople; his grandson, Sean T. Duncan of Zelienople; his sisters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Dale) Forrester of Prospect, Anna (Don) Lent of Tracy, Calif.; and Paul S. Stewart (Mari) of Seattle, Wash.

Corb was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Robert Stewart.

When not volunteering and raising money for Shriners Hospitals for Children, Corb enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf with his son and following professional and collegiate sports. He was a longtime Pittsburgh Steelers season-ticket holder.

Corb loved reading, especially on the topics of military history, biographies and theology. He also enjoyed nature, wildlife and crossword puzzles. Above all, Corb was a kind and content man. He was a father, a husband, an electrician, a Mason, a Shriner and a coach to many in life and on the baseball diamond. He dedicated his life to children through his work with the Shriners. His steadfast commitment to serving others and joy of life were gifts to all who knew him.
