Butler School District on Saturday, April 1, 2017,held its 14th annual Fine Arts and Beyond (FAB) Showcase at the intermediate high school. The event included musical performances and art demonstrations. Paintings, photographs, sculptures, drawings and other pieces of art were displayed and sold in a silent auction. The money raised will go to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation.Submitted photo

Emma Plank, 13, of Slippery Rock brought home six medals from the recent Eastern Zone Swim Championships in Webster, N.Y. A member of the Slippery Rock Eels, Plank placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and broke the Eels’ team record with a time of 26.27 seconds. She placed eighth in the 100 freestyle and swam part of four Allegheny Mountain age 13-14 girls relays. The 400 medley took first place, the 200 medley second, 400 and 200 freestyle relays third. Eels teammate Natalie Carlantonio turned in personal-best times while finishing 15th in the 100 backstroke and 17th in the 200 freestyle.Submitted Photo
