Water main break disrupts BC3 classes

BUTLER TWP — Students at Butler County Community College main campus in Butler Township will be starting class late today because of a water main break.

Classes at the college's main campus will start at 5 p.m., according to a notification the school sent out early this morning. Any classes that start and end before 5 p.m. are canceled.

PA American Water spokesman Gary Lobaugh said the break, to a 12-inch water main located along a road, came at about midnight and is affecting about 40 customers, including the college. Lobaugh said the pipe is more than 70 years old and made of cast iron which has outlived its useful life. The company expects to have water service restored by early Monday afternoon.

Classes at the college's branch campuses remain on their regular schedules.
