Auto dealership donates $10,000 to BC3

BUTLER TWP — A Butler Township automobile dealer has donated $10,000 to the Butler County Community College Education Foundation.

The gift from Dennis Baglier, owner of Baglier Buick, will help fund programs that teach economic concepts to students as early as fourth grade, the college said Wednesday.

Baglier, who made the donation last week, said “We have dealt with many family members and friends who have taken advantage of the college and it has been great,” he said.

Ruth Purcell, the foundation’s executive director, said the donation will be used to fund a program called the Stock Market Game at BC3’s Center for Economic Education. The program is an Economics Pennsylvania competition that introduces students to concepts like investing, saving and financial literacy. Nearly 1,700 students from 30 regional schools compete in the game each year. The program is team-based and is open to students in grades 4 through 12. Teams compete for a hypothetical $100,000 prize and make buy-and-trade investment decisions based on real market conditions.

Baglier’s donation, which was made through Pennsylvania’s Education Improvement Tax Credit program, also will be used to fund Strive and Drive — a program targeted to teens looking at buying their own car.
