Twisting scripture

Jean Ignatuk’s letter (“Immigration legacy” Feb. 26) has twisted Matthew 25:31-46, to a wrong meaning. The verses here speak of eternity and judgment for the ones who treated Jesus’ people, his Jewish brothers, as to good or bad. Read the footnotes of a good translation.

President Trump is using existing federal laws to protect American citizens. The President is not tearing apart families or deporting agricultural workers and nannies. Mr. Trump is concerned about repeat criminals who disregard our laws.

Why do some think that illegals, who broke the law to enter the country, will now abide by our laws? We are a nation governed by the rule of law. Without it, we are no longer a safe nation.

Many people wait years for approval to come here and become a citizen. I have my grandfather’s naturalization paper from October 1898. He came here from Germany. The document reads: “ ... made the necessary proofs and complied with the requisitions prescribed by law.” That was his pathway to citizenship.

Let’s stand behind the president, give him a chance to do what’s right and protect our culture. Prevention first and not regrets later.

Build a wall? They work. Ask China and modern Israel. The Berlin Wall was to keep communism trapped. A wall on our southern border would stop the flow of illegal drugs taking the lives of our young people.

Let us be sure what we are saying is the truth. Our founding fathers did a great job.

Come on, folks. This country is divided enough. Let the law speak for itself and protect us. United we stand, divided we will surely fall.
