While skies this morning were bright with sunshine, weather forecasters have predicted a major storm starting tonight that may result in up to 4 inches of snow by Tuesday morning.

Additional accumulation could come later Tuesday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. today to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Butler area road crews say they are preparing and are confident that their salt levels are sufficient to handle the storm.

“We’re doing lots of preliminary vehicle maintenance,” said Tom Knights, director of public works in Butler Township. “We’re pretty comfortable with our salt levels ... We’re gonna do well. I don’t foresee any problems unless the snowfall surpasses estimates.”

Butler streets foreman Tom Shuler echoed the sentiment.

“Trucks are getting fueled and ready to go,” he said. “There’s five of us out here. We’re planning for it like it’s any other snow storm.”

While crews are planning longer shifts Tuesday, they are confident in their ability to prepare the roads and deal with the weather.
