State police admit wrong accusation
All charges have been dropped against a woman who state police admit was wrongly charged with selling drugs in Butler last year.
Sonja J. Drake, 42, of Butler was the victim of mistaken identity, police said.
But investigators now believe they have identified the right person and charges are forthcoming against the dealer.
Police did not identify the suspect pending the filing of charges and issuing of a warrant.
The alleged dealer is accused of selling 2.09 grams of crack and 10 stamp bags of heroin during a $390 drug deal Feb. 18, 2016, on North Street.
The charges in the case include delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, both felonies, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
Police initially charged Drake in a warrant Feb. 24. But once investigators realized their mistake and after meeting with Drake, all charges were immediately withdrawn, police said.
The case was formally dismissed March 3.
