Richard D. Thompson
Richard D. Thompson, 93, of Cabot, formerly of Gilpin Township, passed away Friday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Cabot Inpatient Unit at Concordia.
A son of the late Richard B. Thompson and Marjorie Knappenberger Thompson, he was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Leechburg.
Richard was a Purple Heart recipient, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been employed as a test cutter with the West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation for 38 years before retiring in 1980.
Richard was a member of the Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township, the Retirees of the U.S.W.A. in Leechburg, the 101st Infantry Veterans' Association of Massachusetts and former member of the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, reading and repairing furniture.
Survivors include two sisters, Bronwyn “Bonnie” Hawley Ardell of Cabot, and Gale Hoak of Cabot; and two stepsisters, JoAnn (Victor) Demski of Massachusetts and Karen Pickett of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Belle Leech Thompson; his wife, Helen D. Demyan Thompson, who died Sept. 26, 1995; his brother, John D. Thompson; and two sisters, Nancy Shaffer and Carolyn Asay.
THOMPSON — Friends of Richard D. Thompson, who died Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, where his funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev.
