Butler man charged with homicide in stabbing death
State police today charged Christopher M. Cannon, 27, of Butler with the murder of James S. Martin at his East Butler home in December.
Martin, 74, on Dec. 30 was stabbed to death in his home on Tenth Street.
According to the criminal complaint, Cannon and Martin set up a meeting at his house by e-mailing each other through Craigslist.com. Martin had made a posting on the website and Cannon responded with the words “whats up” and included a sexually explicit photograph of himself.
Cannon and Raheem R. Archer, 23, both of Butler were arrested in January after they were caught allegedly trying to use Martin's debit card to make purchases at two stores.
Police at the time said that they were being looked at as suspects in Martin's killing.
Cannon is charged with criminal homicide, robbery, theft by unlawful taking, access device fraud and criminal conspiracy.
Already being held in the Butler County Prison, he was arraigned by District Judge Lewis E. Stoughton Friday afternoon and is being held without bail.
