Slippery Rock Fire Co. installs new officers
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Fire Company and Rescue Team held a dinner Jan. 14 to introduce new officers.
Borough Mayor Ron Fodor conducted the installation for Ron Steele, company president; Al Taggart, vice president; Lizzie Martin, secretary; Jim North, treasurer; Ken Taggart, chief; Puddie Taggart, medical officer; Jessica Beatty and Shirley Trimbur, non-emergency staff members; and John Greaves and Dave Taggart, buildings and grounds staff members.
The event included a photo collage that captured what Steele called the “danger, fun, life-saving and roller coster of emotions for volunteers.”
The company also conducted a special tribute for John McGill, a volunteer and board member who died in December. McGill was gravely injured in 1986, when a fire truck in which he was riding slid out of control and tipped over en route to a vehicle fire on Interstate 79.
The company also discussed the status of its ongoing building plan, and acknowledged what Steele called an “unexpected, significant personal contribution” to the project by Royce Lorentz, Slippery Rock Borough council member.
