Driver injured in truck rollover

A tractor-trailer driver was injured Tuesday afternoon when his truck flipped over as he attempted to travel from Interstate 79 onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Marshall Township.

MARSHALL TWP, Allegheny County — A tractor-trailer truck driver reportedly was in stable condition after his truck rolled over Tuesday.

Officials said the vehicle was traveling north on Interstate 79 near Cranberry Township when it attempted to travel onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike around 3 p.m. and went out of control.

The truck went off the road and rolled over, crushing its cab.

Marshall Township Fire Chief Phil Macmillan said speed may have played a factor in the accident.

“We get these all the time,” Macmillan said. “You have a truck with all that weight on the trailer and it takes the turn too fast.”

The trailer was carrying rolls of steel.

State police were unavailable for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Cranberry Township firefighters, Harmony EMS, McCandless Township firefighters, and Turnpike crews were also on the scene to assist.

Traffic was able to get through the area. Tow trucks removed the tractor -trailer later that evening.
