SRU drops games at rival Indiana

The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team outscored fifth-ranked Indiana (Pa.) University 40-37 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a slow start in an 83-66 road loss Saturday night.

It was the 12th consecutive win for IUP (21-1, 16-1).

The Rock (12-11, 8-9) entered the game ranked second in the nation in scoring defense and sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense, but the Crimson Hawks shot 74.1 percent from the field in the first half.

Merdic Green and Naquil Jones each scored 10 points to lead SRU.

Penn Highlands 73, Butler County Community College 66 — Garrett McHenry scored 18 points and also had 19 rebounds in the Pioneers’ loss.

Brandon Record added 19 points and Kaden Rock 11 for BC3 (7-17).

Women’s Basketball

A 16-0 run by IUP late in the third quarter proved too much for The Rock to overcome in a 105-73 loss to the Crimson Hawks.

C.C. Dixon scored a career-high 24 points and Sierra Fordham came off the bench to add 14 points for The Rock (9-14, 6-11).

Butler County Community College 96, Penn Highlands 60 — Julia Baxter scored 28 points and also added 11 rebounds in the Pioneers’ win.

Christina Davis added 15 points and Lydia Roth 14 for BC3 (13-8).
