Second occupant survives fatal crash

PENN TWP — One person has died in a vehicular accident on Route 8 southbound.

A Jeep, which ended up on its roof, veered off the road and hit the side of McBride Station Bar and Grill before coming to a stop on the shoulder.

Police indicated that the fatal victim was a young male who had been ejected.

A second occupant of the Jeep, also a male, was not badly injured and was able to get out of the vehicle under his own power and sit down inside the building until paramedics arrived, the owners of the bar said.

He was transported by ambulance to be evaluated.

The accident, which occurred about 3:15 p.m., restricted traffic on the road.

Only one lane of traffic was moving in each direction as of 5 p.m.

Penn Township police are investigating the cause of the accident while Middlesex Township police were assisting at the scene and a state police reconstruction unit also responded to assist.
