First National gives BC3 $15K

BUTLER TWP — A $15,000 donation to Butler County Community College’s Education Foundation will create scholarships for high school students involved in some of the college’s entrepreneurship courses.

The gift from First National Bank will help 20 students from nine high schools in Mercer County and one in Lawrence County who are participating in the LindenPointe Entrepreneurship Academy Program. The college offers courses in speech, marketing and psychology as part of the academy, which was founded 30 months ago with state funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

Students enrolled in the program create business prototypes and present their plans to investors and business incubators around the region. FNB’s gift will pay student tuition for the BC3 courses. The college opened its building at LindenPointe in 2010. It is one of the college’s six locations around the region.

Assistant D.A. is suspended

Butler County Assistant District Attorney Richard Bosco was suspended last week following an altercation with a fellow attorney in their office Jan. 19.

District Attorney Richard Goldinger said he could not discuss details of the incident, including confirming the identity of the other employee.

Bosco, who is on an unpaid suspension, returns to work Monday.

Sheriff Mike Slupe said Bosco’s employee identification card, which grants access through building side doors, was deactivated for the length of the suspension according to standard practice.

However, Bosco is permitted to enter the main security entrance as visitors do.
