Woman sentenced in embezzling case

PITTSBURGH — A Cranberry Township woman who pleaded guilty last year to embezzling $150,000 from a subsidiary of UPMC was sentenced last week to three years of supervised release.

Elizabeth A. Rotto, 69, of 604 Meadow Glen Court, pleaded guilty in June to using the $150,000 for personal expenses including a baby sitter, home repairs and her daughter’s schooling. Rotto embezzled the money from Askesis Development Group, a subsidiary of UPMC for which she served as vice president of finance in 2015.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh, which prosecuted the case, said Rotto used fraudulent expense reports to funnel the money away from the company.

On Friday U.S. District Court Judge David Cercone sentenced Rotto to one day in the custody of United States marshals, followed by three years of supervised release. She also was ordered to pay $124,965.86 in restitution.
