Chris Cygan grinds a piece of metal Tuesday during a class at the Steamfitters training facility on Wise Road in Jackson Township. Monday was the first day of classes at the site. The trade school by Steamfitters Local 449, a Pittsburgh-based union, provides instruction in welding, blueprint reading and drafting among other curricular courses. About 350 apprentices are enrolled for the first year, although they all will not be taking classes at the same time.
