Rev. Richard E. Bartmas Sr.

The Rev. Richard E. Bartmas Sr., 91, of Cabot passed away Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 2, 1925, in Butler, to the late John DeWolfe Bartmas and Helen A. Robinson Bartmas.

Richard was a graduate of Butler High School. He was a graduate of Nyack Missionary College in Nyack, N.Y. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a sound man during World War II.

He was a pastor in the Christian Missionary Alliance Denomination, serving at Martindale (Portage), Pa., Acmentonia in Cheswick and Harwick, Pa., Philipsburg, Pa., Bethel in West Middlesex, Pa., Heston, Pa., Allenton, Pa., and Titusville, Pa. Richard served in the Acmetonia, Cheswick church three separate times, retiring from Acmetonia Alliance Church in 2008.

He loved music, especially playing the violin, hunting and crossword puzzles. Richard loved reading and his family.

The Rev. Bartmas is survived by his wife, Harriett Pierce Bartmas, who he married Oct. 2, 2004; two sons, Richard E. Bartmas Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Toccoa, Ga., and Paul J. Bartmas and his wife, Joy, of Saltsburg, Pa.; one stepson, Donald Pierce, and his wife, Farrell, of Palmyra, Mo.; two daughters, Faith B. Weidman and her husband, Donald, of New Cumberland, Pa., and Hope P. Owen and her husband, Michael, of Easley, S.C.; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Dale Bartmas and his wife, Evelyn, of San Diego, and Glenn Bartmas of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma B. Watkins Bartmas, who he married on Sept. 21, 1946, and who passed away on March 18, 2003; four brothers, Hope, Gene, Paul and Howard Bartmas; and an infant sister, Enid Bartmas.

BARTMAS — Friends of the Rev. Richard E. Bartmas Sr., who died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crosswinds Alliance Church, 516 Freeport Road, Butler, with the Rev. Timothy Dietrich officiating. Burial will take place at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117, the American Legion Post 778 Lyndora, and the VFW Post 249 Butler will conduct military honors at the cemetery following the service.Memorial donations may be made to Crosswind Alliance Church, 516 Freeport Road, Butler, PA 16002.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
