While no more than two inches of snow is forecast for this afternoon through Friday morning, the weather Wednesday afternoon featured high winds that led to power outages and some traffic delays.

The National Weather Service reported wind speeds of up to 33 mph in the area.

Around 1 p.m., a downed power line on Route 228 caused a detour for more than an hour.

The road was closed to westbound traffic between the intersections with Heritage Creek Drive and Myoma Road. Vehicles were diverted down Crider Road while Penn Power crews responded.

Adams Fire Captain Sean Sokolowski said a branch fell onto the lines and was briefly on fire before one line fell onto the road and hit a passing car, though there were no accidents or injuries.

First Energy’s website reported that more than 100 customers were without power in the Adams Township area.

A tree also fell on power lines on Route 19 in Jackson Township, causing traffic disruptions.

Fire crews removed tree limbs from the power lines on Route 19 southbound near Gudekunst Road, which caused a small fire around 1 p.m.

Crews from the Harmony Fire District extinguished the fire, while Penn Power workers removed the limbs with a chain-saw.

Jackson Township police directed traffic, which at one point was redirected to Gudekunst Road, while commercial traffic was turned around.

Both southbound lanes were fully open by mid-afternoon.

First Energy’s website reported up to 20 homes in Jackson may have been affected by the outages. Power was restored around 3:30 p.m.

Fire departments were also dispatched Wednesday afternoon to reports of wires down in Washington, Winfield and Buffalo townships.
