Local farmer dies in tree-cutting accident
CRANBERRY TWP — A township man died Saturday in a tree-cutting accident on his farm.
Calvin Croft, 73, was cutting down a tree on his property at 7365 Franklin Road when a limb bounced back and struck him in the head, according to chief deputy corner John Hanovick.
Croft died of blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.
Croft, and his brother, Glenn Croft, ran a dairy farm. Calvin Croft was a lifelong resident of Cranberry Township.
A neighbor, Jim Lehman, spoke favorably of the Crofts. He said that Calvin could often be seen working on the farm early in the morning and on his tractor in the field late at night.
“They just worked day and night and in between,” he said. “They’ve been amazing.
“They’ve been great neighbors and it’s very sad to see that (Calvin passed).”
