Scuffle leads to arrest

CRANBERRY TWP — A township man who allegedly caused a scene after being intoxicated waived charges of assault to county court last week.

Police said Connor L. Byer, 19, of Maureen Drive was intoxicated and “out of control” on Dec. 7, holding a steak knife.

Byer was in the front yard of the home with the knife and continued to hold it after police ordered him to drop it.

“Byer made statements to the officer to shoot him,” the police report states.

Byer eventually dropped the knife and was taken to the ground by police. He resisted arrest by lying on his arms and making attempts to rise to his feet.

After Byer was handcuffed and transported to a police vehicle, officers smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the report.

Fred Byer, Connor’s father, said his son destroyed items in the house by kicking and punching holes in the wall. After the elder Byer made the call to 911, Connor Byer grabbed the knife and started waving it around, the report states.

“While waving the knife, Connor stated that he is not going back to the hospital and that police would have to kill him,” the report states.

Byer also got into a scuffle inside the home with his younger brother who tried to control him.

Police also found a fraudulent New Jersey driver’s license in Byer’s wallet stating his birth date to be three years older.

Byer faces multiple charges, including simple assault, resisting arrest, purchasing alcohol while underage and carrying a false identification.

He was confined until Dec. 13 when his $30,000 bail was posted.

He will be formally arraigned on Jan. 24 in Butler County Court.
