A bomb threat at Mars Middle School led to the evacuation of the building Friday afternoon.

Superintendent Wes Shipley said that around 1:30 p.m., a student discovered in the stall of a girl’s bathroom a message written in what appeared to be pen stating that a bomb would go off at 2 p.m.

The student notified staff, who contacted Adams Township Police. The building was evacuated and the students went to the high school, where they finished the day.

Shortly after 2 p.m., three bomb-sniffing dogs were taken through the middle school. The search was concluded shortly after 4 p.m., with no explosives found. Friday activities at the middle school were canceled. Saturday’s events also were canceled, though Shipley said that was due to the weather forecast.

All personal belongings are to remain in the middle school until Monday. Homework is to be adjusted accordingly. “Monday everything goes back to normal,” Shipley said.

Shipley said the response from parents has been positive. “I think our parents are very understanding that our number one priority is the safety of the students, ” he said.

Shipley said there are no suspects in the case.

“We’re still reviewing video footage, and the police and the principal are working on that,” he said.

Knoch High and Middle School were evacuated Tuesday because of a bomb threat. A search found no explosives.
